Los Angeles Accident Prone Roads

It doesn’t take much to understand how roadways in the Los Angeles area can be some of the most dangerous in the country. If the volume of traffic in Los Angeles is not frightening enough, Southern California is also notorious for having the most dangerous and distracted drivers in the country. Because of how frustrating it can be to drive on our roadways, road rage and aggressive drivers are also factors with which we all have to contend.

Most Dangerous Intersections

Recent studies have shown that the Los Angeles also has a number of dangerous intersections where devastating car accidents occur. A recent study based on 2015 data from the California Highway Patrol, found that half of all the dangerous intersections in the state of California are in the city of Los Angeles.

The study determined that the most hazardous intersection in the Golden State is Reseda Boulevard and Devonshire Street. In 2015, there were 24 traffic accidents at this intersection, which caused 41 injuries, but no fatalities. Nearby, the intersection of Nordoff Street and Balboa Boulevard came in at number three. At Haskell Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, there were three fatalities during that same year due to traffic accidents. Here is another telling number. Out of the 444 street intersections statewide that saw 10 or more car accidents in 2015, only 39 were located outside of Southern California.

Why Are LA’s Roads Dangerous?

Traffic safety experts attribute the disproportionate number of deadly intersections in Los Angeles to just how busy or crowded these roadways are. There is a large volume not just of cars, but also large trucks, buses, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. When such a variety of traffic exists, the risk of a major injury traffic collision significantly increases. In our car-centric culture, roadways are designed with the goal of moving vehicular traffic along as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Like many other cities nationwide, Los Angeles has also adopted the “Vision Zero” initiative whose goal is to reduce traffic accident fatalities to zero by the year 2025.

If You Have Been Injured

If you or a loved one has been injured in a street intersection accident, it is important that you secure prompt medical attention, collect as much evidence as possible from the scene and obtain information such as insurance details from other parties involved. In these types of cases, you may be able to seek compensation from the at-fault driver for the injuries and damages caused.

A majority of street intersection crashes occur due to factors such as impaired driving, driver distraction, failure to yield, red light violations and speeding. In some cases where dangerous roadway design is a factor, the governmental agency responsible for designing and maintaining that roadway can also be held accountable. An experienced Orange County car accident lawyer will be able to analyze all aspects of the incident and help you determine the best course of action. A knowledgeable lawyer can also help you avoid the mistakes and pitfalls during the car accident claim process.
